Headaches and neck pain affect many people at some time in their life. In some cases symptons become a chronic problem, even a cause of disability. Neck pain often leads to migraine and headache disorders, even ranking among the top ten leading causes of disability in the US.
Fortunately, there are some naturally safe remedies that are commonly used, such as essential oils, gentle exercise, grounding, yoga, etc., that can provide relief.
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is an evidence based treatment for headaches and neck pain that can be very beneficial. One study reported that patients who received CST over a 20 week period showed substantial clinical benefit of at least 77%. The significant benefits demonstrated were decreased pain on movement, decreased disability, and importantly, improved overall physical quality of life.
According to reports, in a randomized sham controlled trial for chronic neck pain, CraniSacral Therapy has been shown to decrease muscle tension, increase parasympathetic nervous system response (the part of our nervous system that brings our body into a state of rest and recovery) and results in deep relaxation.Â
These studies compared patients who received therapy over time. Individuals and the causes of their symptoms vary widely, so it’s definitely a case by case basis on how quickly one will respond. However, it is not uncommon for clients to start to feel measurable and even significant relief of symptoms after one treatment, with further improvement achieved with successive treatments. Â
CranioSacral Therapy is an extremely comfortable and gentle approach suitable for all ages and can provide significant pain relief and improved quality of life.
